Welcome to Chamber Music at McGill. The small ensemble program is one of the great strengths of the comprehensive training for professional musicians offered at the Schulich School of Music and is often cited by alumni as one of the highlights of their studies at McGill.

There will be a
General Information Meeting for Chamber Music on Wednesday September 5, 2012 at 7:00pm in Rm C201. Procedures will be explained, questions answered and initiatives announced. All are welcome to attend and it is highly recommended for 1st year students.

If you play an orchestral instrument, chamber music is an integral part of the Performance curriculum along with lessons and playing in a large ensemble. In fact, small ensembles and large ensembles are a co-requisite of lessons – you must maintain registration in both a large and assigned small ensemble during every term of enrolment, whether full-time or part-time, regardless of the number of credits you have earned (extra credits may be applied towards complimentary performance electives). Please refer to the Ensemble Policy in the Schulich School of Music calendar for complete regulations.

All students in Orchestral Instruments programs must participate in the auditions held on Wednesday September 5 and Thursday September 6, 2012. Chamber Music Ensembles are assigned following the auditions, by the coordinators in consultation with the Area Chairs. The list of ensembles will be posted on the Ensemble Bulletin Board (opposite C209) and outside C515 the week following auditions. Students are responsible for registering themselves in the correct course and section on Minerva for all ensembles and must contact their designated coach to arrange coaching times.

Pianists wishing to be considered to participate in a chamber music ensemble must sign up for the mixed ensemble audition at the beginning of term
