The Composition Area offers two undergraduate degrees: a Bachelor of Music with a Major in Composition and a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Composition. The Master of Music degree (M. Mus.), Doctor of Music degree (D.Mus.) and Ph.D. are also available in Composition.
The new Ph.D. program in composition provides an important distinction for research-oriented students. A dissertation/composition accompanied by a research document judged to be an original contribution to knowledge, linked as it may be to one of the sister disciplines of Musicology, Music Theory, Music Technology, Music Education, Sound Recording and Theory, earns the Ph.D. degree. A dissertation/composition accompanied solely by an analytical paper earns the D.Mus. degree.
