  Mira Benjamin (Bio)

Mira Benjamin began her violin studies at the age of three. She is currently pursuing an Artist Diploma as a student of Professor Denise Lupien at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, with the support of a Lloyd Carr-Harris Scholarship. Recipient of the 2009 Leon and Thea Koerner Award in the Fine and Performing Arts from the Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation of British Columbia, she holds a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University, having previously studied with Taras Gabora in her native Vancouver.

A devoted performer of new music, Mira works regularly with composers and has performed several world premiers, including presentations at Vancouver's Sonic Boom Contemporary Music Festival and at Montréal's MusiMars. Her live performances, both as a soloist and in collaboration with pianist Julia den Boer, have been broadcast nationally by CBC Radio 2 and CKNW Radio, Vancouver. Mira is also an active member of McGill's Contemporary Music Ensemble, serving as first violinist for its recent cycle of the complete Ligeti concerti, soon to be released.

Mira is a founding director of Chamber Music Without Borders, a McGill-based music outreach program benefitting the Montréal community. She also serves as Assistant to the Artistic Director of the Casalmaggiore International Festival, Italy, where she regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician.
