The little gremlins are back !
This morning, we had a server problem.
– The “M:” drive was unavailable for ~1 hour
– Some of the network credential when off line for ~15min, affecting music incoming emails.
– “sites.music.mcgill.ca” was unavailable for ~10min.
Now at 11h35, everything should be back to normal.
By around noon today, IT Services will be announcing the availability of the OneDrive (cloud file storage) service for students and alumni who have active McGill credentials (e.g., Email for Life with active McGill Username of the format email@example.com).
The service includes 1 TB FREE personal file space on OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud file storage component of the Office 365 package.

The projector setup in the conference room A-832 is having a middle life crisis and does not always want to cooperate.
The music building director office and NCS are looking into a replacement unit.
I do not have a ETA yet, but I can assure you they are doing their best to have it changed ASAP.
In the case you do experiment problems with the projector, the LAN office can provide a portable unit.
McGill is changing his VPN strategy and moving to a different software.
If you are working from home and need to remotely connect to your Windows desktop, then you should be upgrading to the new VPN client.
There is nothing to change on your office desktop, this VPN client is to be install on your home Macintosh of Windows 7/8 (no support for XP) machine.

As one of the final steps of the mitigation plan for the HeartBleed threat, IT Services is preparing to double the McGill Password of any faculty or staff (including retired staff) who did not yet change it. For example, if a user’s password is currently “McGill12”, it will be changed by an automated process to “McGill12McGill12”.

The will be an electrical power shutdown in the old music building, Tuesday November November 4th from 2:00 am to 6:00 am.
Hopefully this will not affect the network to much.
