Audio Effects

HotMedia objects can incorporate three types of audio effects.

    1. Play a sound after an animation loads.
    2. Play a sound when the mouse enters the applet window (after animation loads).
    3. Play a sound when the mouse is over a hot link.

Currently, HotMedia can only support AU files less than 64K. Additionally, because of Java limitations the sound files must be 8000Hz, 8-bit, 1-channel, CCITT mu-Law coding.

Following is an example. This HotMedia uses uses the panning feature for its thumbnail. (Remember: The trick to getting the image to pan is to make the applet width less than the width of the original graphic used for the thumbnail.)

Click on the image to start the animation.

      1. A sound plays after the images are loaded.
      2. Passing the mouse over the ball plays a second sound.
      3. Passing the mouse over the region at the lower right plays a third sound.

Note: Because this last hot link was copied to all frames, leaving the mouse over the lower right region plays the third sound clip on each frame of the animation.

Following is the Animation Options dialog for numbers 1 and 2 above.

Following are the Hot Link Editor and Hot Link Properties for number 3 above. Notice in the image below that in the Hot Link Editor audio hot links are defined as green rectangles, as opposed to red for non-audio hot links.

The region at the lower left is a hot link to another HotMedia, which in turn includes a link back to the initial HotMedia. Note that this link returns you to the animation sequence of the HotMedia as opposed to the thumbnail.

Following is another example:

This HotMedia was created with 8 hot links, one for each note in the scale.
