An afternoon of passion, percussion and excitement! Canada's premiere youth ensembles, the U of T and McGill Percussion Ensembles perform high-energy classics by Steve Reich including Nagoya Marimbas, Music for Pieces of Wood and Clapping Music. Other highlights will include works by John Cage and Canadians Mark Duggan and Mark Ford.

MacMillan Theatre
Performance art meets percussion as renowned conductor of New York's Alarm Will Sound Alan Pierson conducts an explosive evening of avant-garde music mastery. Fred Rzewski's epic cult classic Coming Together is a setting of letters written by Sam Melville, who died in the Attica State Prison riots. Other highlights will include a world premiere by Michael Colgrass performed by "the Paganini of the steelpan", Liam Teague and Arpatambora, Alice Ho's Kami and George Antheil's riotous Ballet Mécanique. Performers include Beverley Johnston, Richard Moore, Ryan Scott, Sanya Eng and more.

Wired Percussion

Toca Loca, Aiyun Huang and The McGill Percussion Ensemble explore the boundless relationship between electronics and music. From the computer generated rhythms in Rolf Wallin's explosive masterpiece Stonewave, to John Cage's Credo in Us featuring even tin cans, an electric buzzer and a radio. The programme will include adventurous and compelling works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kaija Saariaho and Canada's Andrew Staniland, Geoff Holbrook and Scott Wilson.
