Erika Donald (Bio)


Erica Donald is an avid performer and music educator. Her diverse musical interests have led to performances and collaborations in a wide variety of ensembles and venues, including the Carmel Bach Festival in California, the Birkenhead Summer Serenades in Cheshire, England and stages across Canada. Most recently, she has been exploring live electronics and contemporary music and improvisation, along with the standard repertoire.


Erika holds a Masters degree in cello performance from McGill University (2008) where she studied with Yegor Dyachkov, and a B.Mus from the University of Manitoba where her teachers were Yuri Hooker and Paul Marleyn. In 2004, she studied performance and pedagogy with Irene Sharp in San Francisco. A dedicated teacher, she taught through the University of Manitoba's Preparatory Studies and Suzuki programs from 2002-2006 and now teaches at the McGill Conservatory. Her students have won local and provincial awards.


Erika was a Performance Research Assistant in the CIRMMT/McGill Digital Orchestra Project and was recently awarded a Canada Graduate Fellowship by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and a Student Award from the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT). She is currently pursuing PhD studies at McGill, performing and studying movement and motor learning in string playing.
