Industrial Collaborations & Projects

  • Research internship by Quim Llimona with Google's Machine Perception grouop.
  • Research discussions with D'Addario Woodwinds, including donation of reed cane samples, for the PhD research project of Connor Kemp, who is investigating the micro-structural properties of woodwind reeds.
  • Yamaha graciously loaned 4 YAS-480 alto saxophones to CAML for an acoustic and perceptual study on tonehole pad “resonators” in 2013/14.
  • Two CAML students, Vincent Fréour and Shi Yong, participated in research internships with Yamaha Corporate Research and Development Centre CRDC, Japan in 2013/14.
  • Research project with Godin Guitars focusing on the design and development of a quality control system for guitars, funded through an Engage grant from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.

Current Academic Collaborations & Projects

  • Collaboration with Professor James Woodhouse, Cambridge University, UK on the modeling of bowed-string musical instruments.
  • Collaboration with Esteban Maestre, Music Technology Group, Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona, Spain and Julius Smith and Jonathan Abel, Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics, Stanford University on the design of violin coupling and body filters for sound synthesis models based on measurements.
  • Collaboration with Andrey da Silva, Assistant Professor, Vibration and Acoustics Laboratory, Mechanical Engineering Department, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, Brazil on aeroacoustic modeling.

Previous Collaborations & Projects
