We can use complex exponential notation to determine the resulting spectrum of the following sinusoidal ring modulation example:

We thus see that the sum of two sinusoids can be written as a product:
Note that this is equivalent to applying a sinusoidal amplitude envelope to a carrier oscillator.
Also note the absence of the carrier frequency in the resulting spectrum.
