The Mechanical Player System

A mechanical player system has been in development and use in CAML since 2018. It has primarily been used thus far for studies of saxophone cane and synthetic reed fatigue. The system is composed of:

  • An electric air pump
  • Assorted tubing, cooling and “muffler” components
  • A mouthbox structure
  • A manual valve to control air flow into the mouthbox

The mouthbox has been designed with CAD software to support a wide range of mouthpieces and controls for lip pressure and positioning.
