Measurement Approaches

Measurements of music instrument vibrational characteristics can be used in various ways, including:
  1. To gain a better understanding of the mechanical or acoustic behaviour of the system;

  2. To derive or extract parameters to be used in analytic or synthesis models;

  3. To compare different instruments or parts of instruments; and

  4. To verify the accuracy of models.
In this section, we briefly survey some of the more common measurement approaches used with music instruments.
